Executive Producer Brenda VanLengen joined Iowa Public Radio’s Talk of Iowa podcast this week to discuss the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Final Four and the exponential growth of the sport.

Iowa and sharp-shooting guard Caitlin Clark have played a huge role in that, drawing more than 12 million viewers for their Elite Eight victory against Louisiana State. It was a rematch of the 2023 championship game. Did you know that girls and women in Iowa have played for more than 100 years? They discussed that rich history too, talking about legends like Dr. Christine Grant and other prolific scorers like Arlys Van Langen Rathje.

“It’s really gratifying and it’s really exciting to see all of this,” VanLengen said. “All eyes are on the women’s basketball world, on the University of Iowa, on Caitlin Clark and really all of the young women that are part of sports and contributing to it.”

Final Four Schedule:

  • South Carolina vs. NC State at 6 p.m. CT
  • Iowa vs. UConn at 8:30 p.m. CT
