Women’s sports journalist Jane Burns interviewed Executive Director Brenda VanLengen about the inspiration for and process of creating the upcoming 10-part docuseries If Not For Them. The article appeared on Burns’ Substack publication, The Crossover.

The two discussed several different storylines in women’s basketball including Caitlin Clark breaking the women’s Division I scoring record and some of the forgotten names that came before her.

“One of the reasons I got interested in this project was my grandma in Nebraska played basketball in high school, at least for a year, in the 1920s,” said VanLengen, who played at Nebraska-Kearney and was an assistant coach at Nebraska. “But my mom and my aunts, who went to school in the ’50s and ’60s, didn’t and I never understood why.”
